Secret ballot online - one person, one vote
For board and committee elections, union and association votes, HOA and condo decisions, student councils. Every voter gets a personal link that works once. You see how many have voted - never who voted for what.
How it works
- Write the ballot. Pick the Secret Ballot template and type the question and the candidates or options. Add more questions if the vote has several parts. The template switches the secret ballot on - there is nothing else to set.
- Add your voters. Paste their email addresses - up to 500 per vote. Each one receives a personal link by email.
- People vote. Each link works once. Opening it again shows "this ballot has already been used"; the public form link does not accept votes at all.
- Follow the turnout and remind. You see "18 of 30 have voted". Once a day you can send a reminder to everyone who has not voted yet - with a fresh link; the old one stops working.
- Close the vote. No more votes are accepted, every voter's address is deleted, and the results open - for you, and for voters on the same link.
What makes the ballot secret
- No path from a vote back to a voter. The voter list records only that a person has voted. The vote is stored on its own - no name, no email, no link, no voting time next to the voter.
- You see turnout, not names. The organiser sees how many have voted, not which people. A list of who voted, next to the time each vote arrived, would let anyone match the two - so there is no such list.
- No early results. While the vote is open, its votes are not shown anywhere - not on the responses page, in exports, in email notifications or integrations, or through the API.
- Addresses are kept only while the vote is open, so that non-voters can be reminded, and are deleted when you close it.
- No IP address and no cookie is stored with a vote.
Secret ballot or open poll?
For a quick decision where anyone with the link may vote, the free
anonymous poll is enough: voters see the results right after voting.
It does not limit people to one vote. When the result has to count - an election, a motion, a budget - use the secret ballot.
Good to know
- The secret ballot is part of Pro ($9 a month or $90 a year) and Team. The open anonymous poll is free.
- Up to 500 voters per vote. Ballot emails are written in English; the voting page appears in the voter's own language (18 languages).
- Anyone who receives a voter's link can use it, so ask voters not to forward their email.
- It is built for organisations' own votes. It is not meant for government or public elections, and it has not been certified or audited as an election system.
Questions
Can the organiser see how I voted?
No. The organiser sees how many people have voted and, after closing, the totals and the individual votes - but nothing connects a vote to the person who cast it.
Can someone vote twice?
No. Each voter has one link, and it works once. A reminder replaces the link rather than adding a second one.
What if a voter loses the email?
Send a reminder to everyone who has not voted yet: they receive a fresh link. Reminders can go out once a day.
When can voters see the result?
When the organiser closes the vote. The same link then shows the totals, as long as at least 5 votes were cast.
Can I add voters after the vote has started?
Yes, while it is open - paste more addresses and they get their links straight away.
